Junior Leadership Program
Many children attend the Nature Day Camp for consecutive summers, and are still eager to attend when they surpass the age limit. There is an opportunity to share their ‘camp expertise’ with younger children by having them return as Junior Leaders. Similar to the ‘big buddy’ system in elementary schools, our Junior Leaders act as positive role models for younger children at the day camp. This is a wonderful opportunity for this age group to develop communication skills and leadership qualities in a safe, familiar environment.
Monitoring the Junior Leaders
The Summer Camp Supervisor and Leaders will communicate daily about the progress of the Junior Leaders. If a Junior Leader does not meet the expectations of our program then a three- way meeting will take place between the Junior Leader, parent, and Camp Leaders. It will be determined at this meeting whether or not he/she is able to continue being a Junior Leader at the Morrell Nature Sanctuary. Availability
Registration for Junior Leaders is on a first-come, first-served basis, for a maximum of 2 weeks in the summer. We allow a maximum of two Junior Leaders for each themed week. Commonly, two friends will register to be Junior Leaders together. The fees for being a Junior Leader are $40 day, the same as those for the younger campers. |

Expectations of Junior Leaders:
Certificate
Each Junior Leader will be given a certificate which states that they met or exceeded the expectations noted above. The certificate will be issued on their fifth or final day of being a Junior Leader. We feel that at least five days are needed in order to develop their leadership qualities.
